#6 - Tapping the Vein,
Part Two

What has come before... Fannin tempts Zarathos with a new host that he can't resist. Meanwhile the Seekers split up. Jennifer remains at the new HQ to tend to Blaze and try to find Fannin, while the rest of the group head to New Orleans where the Nightstalkers are having problems with one of their own ...

Blade stood up, leaving the wooden stake in Hannibal King. The vampire collapsed over Frank Drake who carefully pushed the decaying corpse of his friend to one side. Brushing himself down, he joined Blade who was studying the newcomers.

"He's not going to be happy when you take the stake out," Drake stated casually.

Moon Knight ignored that as he stepped forward. "What are you doing here?"

"Nice to see you too."

Ignoring Blade, Moon Knight turned and asked Magick, "Are we in the right place?"

Magick arched on eyebrow in response.

"Are you feeling the same thing I am?" Moon Knight asked Ghost Rider.

Danny Ketch had changed into his demonic alter-ego prior to entering the portal, and now the flaming skull-headed spirit of vengeance stood in his stead. Noble Kale nodded his head somberly then started for the house.

"Someone mind clueing us in on what's going on?" Frank Drake stuck his face close to Moon Knight's as he ground out the question. "Do you know why King was acting so weird?"

Magick answered. "There's chaos magic in the air and it's all centered on this place." She gestured at the house brooding over them. "The magic has a scent of twisting to it. Changing, and pulling, but I…"

She paused, her eyes glazed, and when they cleared a moment later, they were wide in shock. "It's a blood calling."

"Will someone talk English around here, and let me know what we have to hit, so we can be done with this crap and get after Fannin." The angry voice belonged to Firestar, the final member of the Seekers present.

"What is it you saw girl?" Blade asked.

Magick visibly shook her head, as though to clear the cobwebs, then answered everyone. "The spell that is being cast is ancient. It summons

anyone who has any thoughts about spilling blood. Vampires are most affected, followed by killers, but it can target anyone who has even thought about killing."

"Okay, so we have a lot of vamps to deal with. Big whoop!"

Magick rode over whatever Blade was about to add. Angrily she said, "The aim of the spell is to shed enough blood to summon a creature from nightmare. Something called a vampire intelligence. From what I've read, and that's not much, if it's able to even partially manifest itself on this plane, we'd have a major problem."

"I've never heard of a vampire intelligence and I've been doing this a long time," Blade said skeptically.

The sound of a door being torn of its hinges stopped further conversation. They all turned to see Ghost Rider disappearing into the house.

Moon Knight swore then started to issue orders. "Let's get after him. Firestar, you're with me. We'll go around the back and come in from that side. Magick, you follow Noble."

He stopped them looked at Blade. "You in?"

Without hesitation Blade nodded.

"Back up Noble and Magick. Drake you're with me."

With that, they all moved to enter the house.

Jennifer Kale stretched, arms pulled high over her head, pulling her short shirt high up her stomach. Unconsciously she hiked her pants a little higher. They sat at her waist for all of a second before dropping back to their accustomed place on her hips. She had come upstairs to check on the sleeping form of John Blaze. He had not awoken since they had saved him from the demon that had attacked him. The demon, or its human host, was locked in a room in the lower levels.

Jen sighed and moved to the door. She had planned to return to the room she had set up earlier for scrying, but a tugging in the back of her mind pulled her in another direction. It never occurred to her to be worried about it, and she soon found herself in the basement level of the building that was the new Seekers headquarters.

As she stopped in front of a blank section of unpainted wall she seemed to become aware of her surroundings and her eyes narrowed dangerously. With a gesture she ignited a series of magical wards designed to protect her. Even with the wards in place she could feel a

strong magical pull from the wall she had been facing.

Carefully she reached out a hand and placed it on the wall. When the wall began to glow under her she snatched it back. An entire section of the wall began to glow with a pale yellow light. Jen readied a magical bolt.

As quickly as the light had come it disappeared, taking the section of the wall with it, to reveal a large room. Two more doors were visible. Stepping slowly, Jen edged into the entrance and looked inside.

Through the gloom she could see that the room resembled and old Victorian-era study. Large bookcases lined two of the walls. A large oak desk hugged another and several large chairs took up the space along the final one. She noted that there were actually three doors leading from the room.

Continuing to be cautious, she moved further in. A quick spell was cast to detect for trouble, but it came back blank. She turned towards the desk, and was moving in that direction when a voice addressed her from the seating area. "Hello Seeker. I've waited for you for a very long time."

She spun and tried to make out the figure she could not see sitting in

one of the chairs..

Wayne Martin drove north. He glanced often at his passenger who was sleeping peacefully in the next seat. Bruce Banner. The Hulk. He'll kill me. The three phrases keeping running around Wayne's head, chasing each other. So why had he agreed to drive him to New York? He had a feeling that if he could answer that question he would feel a lot better about things. The conversation they had had before leaving Atlanta seemed surreal looking back on it.

Banner had tried to call several people, and none had answered. Then he had called another number and finally talked to someone called Wong. After an eternity of trying to explain who he was, he had finally been told to come to New York. Of course, he did not have any money, so he had asked Wayne to drive him. What exactly was I to say? Wayne wondered again. Sorry Mr.Hulk, I don't want to drive you to New York. Go find someone else? Perfect for angering him and then I get squished. Easier just to get in the car and drive. At least he's been sleeping for...

"Stop!"

Wayne swerved into the next lane, relieved that the traffic was light

enough to avoid hitting anything. He spared a glance for Banner who had woken up screaming at him to stop the car. He was clutching at his head and sweat was pouring from his brow. The scariest thing however, was the emerald green eyes that bulged outwards.

Wayne swerved to the shoulder and slammed the brakes on. Both men crashed forward, held in place by their seatbelts. As Wayne tried to unbuckle and gasp for breath, he heard a rending sound from the other side. Against his better judgment he glanced over.

Laying on the ground, having smashed his way through the car door, was the huge figure of the Hulk, who appeared to be trying to crush his own head.

Next: Hulk battles Zarathos. Seekers and Nightstalkers try to stop the cultist from summoning a monster from another world, and Jennifer learns more about the Seekers.
